Arksun & Hodel – Eternity
RATING: (19.3/20)
Energy: 9.6/10
Emotions: 9.7/10
INTRODUCTION:
Yet another sign of 2021 starting on a high note, Laurence Rapaccioli aka Arksun 🇬🇧 is making a comeback after a decade! The legend behind groundbreaking Trance classics is also an ambient/cinematic producer & sound designer since the late 90s. He released on labels like Zone, Collision & Subtraxx, but he’s most famous for his 2006 Armind release “Arisen”. It’s one of the most successful releases on Armin’s imprint with a remix by Airbase & another by Sean Tyas recently. Laurence was also ½ of Luminary alongside Meredith Call. They appeared on Soundpiercing, Lost Language, Solaris & of course Anjunabeats with their biggest hit “Amsterdam”. As one of the label’s most successful tracks, it got various remixes by Smith & Pledger, Maor Levi, Super8 & Tab, Grum & even an Above & Beyond mashup with Jason Ross’s Cairo. This resurrection is a team-up with Björn Hödel 🇸🇪, who rose to the scene in 2007 through Enhanced, Infrasonic, In Trance We Trust, S107, Perceptive etc. Likewise, he’s returning after a really long time. Let’s now witness this rebirth!
PRODUCTION:
An epic intro with a sparkling background ambiance & a tight rolling bassline is followed by the neat entry of the 1st climax with its classic uplifting pattern & drum scheme; certain bits here resemble Arksun’s “Arisen”. The breakdown is where the eternity lies, a spacey atmosphere via dreamy pads & piano, akin to some of Hodel’s old stuff. The angelic voices during the breakdown denote the title before a clean sweep of eternal Trance rushes in. For the final climax, a nostalgic riff covered with heavenly voices & pianos takes you into the perpetual journey of these legends.
CONCLUSION:
This sounds so fresh. Interestingly, Arksun’s ambient/cinematic journey before taking his hiatus was because he felt done with Trance, but now he’s back to combine both! It also seems like Ferry’s Flashover is slowly becoming the label for big revivals, from Leon Bolier’s main moniker & Marcus Schössow’s AIKA to Arksun & Hodel. We look forward to where they’ll go next, maybe they’ll bring back more legends!
