22-year-old George Fellows is a student at the University of Reading who believes he gets “male periods”.
He’s currently living with female housemate and best friend Amber-May Ellis, who naturally gets cramps when she comes on every month, and Dave’s periods seem to have synced up with hers.
He explains:
I think it’s a psychological thing because we’re so close, we feel the same emotions.
I get pain in my lower abdomen and in the groin area. I get super moody, really erratic and angry with most of my friends.
I also get emotional. I’m not really one for a cry but during that time of the month I’m an emotional wreck.
Only one hole in his theory though (no pun intended) — he doesn’t actually bleed. But obviously he’s got an explanation for that:
I do think men can have periods without bleeding.
If you’re hanging out with someone and you’re really close, I think it’s only natural your hormones would sync up.
When George told his doctor about his cramps three years ago, the doctor was left baffled and sent him on his way with abdomen pain pills.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists heard about George’s story too and said while it’s possible for George to have a psychological response to Amber, he can’t by definition suffer Premenstrual Syndrome as it is not hormonally mediated.
Just slightly disappointed with the fact he doesn’t bleed; the guys behind Manpons could do with some clientele.
