Bonobo

This is Simon Green, the British producer, musician and DJ known as Bonobo, originally from Brighton and now based in Los Angeles. He debuted in 1999 on the Tru Thoughts compilation When Shapes Join Together, and released his first album, Animal Magic, in 2000 on Tru Thoughts, before it was reissued by Ninja Tune in 2001, the label he's remained closely associated with ever since.

Bonobo's sound debuted with a trip hop aesthetic and has since explored more upbeat approaches as well as jazz and world music influences, with an electronic sound that incorporates organic instrumentation and is recreated by a full band in live performances. Albums like The North Borders in 2013 brought wider success, featuring Erykah Badu on vocals, while Migration reached the top five of the UK Albums Chart and Fragments picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. His latest record, Distance In Static, is his first new album since 2022's Fragments, released on 11 September on Ninja Tune, and features Joy Crookes, Arooj Aftab, Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Nicole Miglis of Hundred Waters and Aanya Martin. The lead single "Me and You" is a direct, club-facing cut that has already been tested in his recent DJ sets, so expect a show that moves between reflective, textured material and heavier club moments.

For these UK dates he's touring the album in full live-band mode, with the shows in Newcastle, Manchester, Brighton, Glasgow and Bristol billed as Distance In Static live performances rather than standard club DJ sets. Given his history of swapping between solo DJ work and full-band live shows, expect a set built around rich production, organic instrumentation and the new record's blend of ambient warmth and club-ready rhythm.
