Joy Orbison
Joy Orbison is the recording name of Peter O'Grady, born in 1986 and originating from Croydon, England. Raised on the music of his uncle Ray Keith, he grew up on a steady diet of jungle and UKG, started DJing at thirteen, and later began sketching grime loops in Fruity Loops before expanding into the hybrid style he's now known for. He achieved underground success with his debut single "Hyph Mngo", released via Hotflush Recordings in September 2009, a track that was influential in the dubstep genre and was included in a number of "best of" lists.
His sound draws on a coalescence of house, dubstep, UK funky, UK garage and oldschool jungle, and he's released music through labels including Hotflush, Doldrums, Hingefinger, SunkLo and Swamp81. He's also known for his collaborations with Boddika, and more recently teamed up with Overmono and Kwengface on the 2023 track "Freedom 2". On the radio side, he's both a festival headliner and the host of the Just For You club night at fabric, and has held a Radio 1 residency.
Expect a set that moves fluidly between styles rather than sitting in one lane. As a DJ, he's a regular presence in influential club circuits and festival programming, where his sets reflect the same open-ended approach as his productions, framing breakbeat, garage, house and bass as part of one moving continuum rather than sealed categories. It's a London sound built on years of pirate radio, record shops and soundsystem culture, brought to UK dancefloors with warmth and swing rather than showmanship.
