House Gospel Choir

House Gospel Choir is a London-based collective founded by creative director Natalie Maddix, which debuted in 2014 at Glastonbury Festival, combining house music and gospel. The group began when Maddix casually posted about putting together a house choir, and following a debut rehearsal in Hackney in 2014, they were booked to play Glastonbury, amassing over 30 vocalists and musicians performing songs such as Barbara Tucker's "Beautiful People" and Kirk Franklin's "Up Above My Head." The choir has since grown into a sizeable collective of singers, musicians, DJs and producers from a wide range of backgrounds.

Their recorded output blends house, garage and gospel. Their 2017 debut single, "Deeper," featured Riton and MNEK, followed by a 2018 cover of Wookie's "Battle," produced by the UK garage pioneer himself. Their 2020 debut album, Re//Choired, featured collaborations with house legend Todd Terry and included versions of songs by artists like Candi Staton, Crystal Waters, and Disclosure, while after releasing tracks with the likes of Marshall Jefferson and Oliver Heldens, they released a second album, Love Is the Message, in 2024. They've also lent their voices to other artists' records, featuring on Ella Henderson and Just Kiddin's "Risk It All" and performing with Kylie Minogue for her virtual concert Infinite Disco.

Expect a live show rather than a standard DJ set: a full choir performance built around house, garage and gospel favourites, with the emphasis on singing along and getting the room up and moving. Their regular Sunday brunch residency at Soul Mama in Islington is part of an ongoing series of gospel brunches they run at the venue, pairing their set with Soul Mama's food and atmosphere.
