Jon Pleased Wimmin
Jon Pleased Wimmin, real name Jonathan Cooper, is a British house DJ who got his start in London's rave scene in the early nineties. His career began performing in the crossdressing cabaret act "The Pleased Wimmin", spotted by DJ Danny Rampling, who booked them to perform at club night Glam, and from there Cooper moved into the DJ booth. In October 1993 he opened his own club night, Pleased, in Sutton Row, which became a fixture of the London scene, and in that same year he was featured in the inaugural DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll, an alphabetical listing of the world's most influential selectors.
As a producer, he had chart success with the handbag house club hit "Passion", produced by Norman Cook, which topped the UK Dance Chart in 1995. His follow-up record, 'Give Me Strength', was written and co-produced with Sister Bliss and also hit the top 30. He also provided a mix for the Ministry of Sound compilation album One Half of a Whole Decade. He later delivered remixes for the likes of Divine, Erasure, Pierre Henri and even Chris Rea. After stepping back from DJing, Cooper took around a decade away from performing, during which he completed a degree in Popular Music in Edinburgh, before returning to the decks by 2011.
Known for playing in full drag and for an eclectic, feel-good approach across house, disco and old skool, Jon became a regular fixture at clubs nationwide including Fabric, Back To Basics, Ministry of Sound, Cream and Renaissance, among many others. He's also built a strong relationship with Housework at Ministry of Sound in more recent years, and continues to tour UK clubs with sets that draw on three decades of house, disco and old skool favourites, mixed with his trademark energy and flamboyance.
