Mike Crawley – God Is An Astronaut
It’s always nice to discover new things while doing something you love in music, whether it’s artists, labels, festivals, genres etc. Such is the case with tech, hard & psy Trance label Radiation Recordings 🇬🇧. They focus on upcoming talents within this spectrum of Trance, in fact, we only recently discovered that some of the artists who released there previously are known names to us, such as: Project 8, Renegade System, R.E.L.O.A.D, Jackob Rocksonn, Nicholson, Obie Fernandez, Rated R, Inversed, Lucas Deyong, Symmetrik and Vision X. Knowing all this is insane! The radiant spirit is kept alive & well with new talents like Mike Crawley 🇬🇧 who’s been DJing since the early 2010s with participations in many big festivals in his zone. Apart from 1 remix on his SoundCloud, it seems like “God Is An Astronaut” is indeed his 1st original release, I could be mistaken. Regardless, let’s talk about this track.
Starting with an interesting breakbeat-esque drum scheme, we can foresee something hard is about to hit, the use of percussion here is lovely. The harder kicks enter in the 1st climax that is such a floor filler, huge fan of the sound design on the leads, bass & vocal sample here, this same climax features multiple bassline structures, making it all about the pumping energy. The breakdown is where it uplifts, starring a voice indicating space and we have some dark riffs floating to give it that atmospheric feeling supported by acoustic breakbeat drums. Everything is true indeed, the 2nd climax has the feeling of outer space and the elements here mix impeccably, with cool effects & fillers to raise complexity. A cool observation is how the positions of the sections in both climaxes were switched as to keep a consistent flow.
It’s a nice discovery for us, kudos to Radiation for signing this. I personally loved how he groomed his tech Trance to give something out of the box. Can’t wait for more music by him!
